How to safely transport your powered wheelchair

When choosing a new wheelchair, many people tend to focus on the chair to be on fit, to its features and functionality. One important consideration that is often overlooked, however, is how easy and how safe and easy the wheelchair will be to transport.

Because transportation is an essential part of life and it plays and important role to all of us we all have to be careful with our equipment, especially when one is often required to take it to work or to study, when going on errand or visiting family and friends. When one is having a disability transportation is much harder than usual – for passengers using powered wheelchairs, specially equipped vehicles are required for safe transport.

We are here to do that for you. True to Care is a Non-Emergency Medical Transportation company operating 24/7 in the cities of Phoenix, Mesa, Paradise Valley, Peoria, Queen Creek, Scottsdale, and Sun City, fully licensed and insured. With over 5 years of experience in adult care and nursing industry we provide essential and quality transportation for our customers – people with disability or mobility difficulties.

To ensure the safety of passengers, True to Care must meet a range of important Arizona requirements. We have a fleet of recent model, top-of-the-line, well equipped mini-vans, with heavy duty wheelchair hoists that can accommodate standard or oversized, bariatric, electric wheelchairs and scooters.

It’s our responsibility to ensure:

  • That each vehicle is equipped with the necessary restraint systems to safely secure each wheelchair and its occupant
  • The vehicle has a functioning air conditioner / heater to make the ride very comfortable
  • All the equipment is maintained in good working order to get our passenger safe

Wheelchair tie-down systems are used to secure the wheelchair firmly to the floor of the vehicle.

True to Care driver accreditation conditions include a number of requirements relating to the operation of wheelchair accessible vehicles. Our drivers must complete drug screening periodically, they are CPR certified, defensive driving and hospice sensitivity certified, PASS certified and background checked.
