Keep your home safe while travelling

True to care is a Non-Emergency Medical Transportation company operating 24/7 in Maricopa County and all over the valley fully licensed and insured. We may take care about you to get safe and on time to destination but we can’t keep your home safe while you are away. We can only give you some home safety tips, it’s up to you to apply them when necessary.

To ensure your home is safe it is important to understand and be aware of the many preventable acts that can occur inside when you are out. Read and review the following items to keep your family and community safe.

  • Inspect your home to ensure the windows and doors are locked, smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are properly maintained, cleaning materials and medicine are stored away.
  • Place a dowel or board into the track of sliding doors or windows to prevent them from moving.
  • Keep firearms unloaded and locked in a safe place not accessible by children. Talk to your children and your family about the dangers of guns and what they should do if they come into contact with a gun.
  • Remind your children to be careful around things that become hot like stoves and fireplaces, and to never play with matches or lighters.
  • Prepare yourself for an emergency. It’s smart for someone in the family to learn CPR and the Heimlich maneuver, assemble a first aid kit, and keep important phone numbers nearby.
  • Keep the travel plans and photos off all social media networks – this is prime information for a thief.
  • When no one is home ask a friend or a relative to check the house periodically – at least once another day if it’s possible – or to keep an eye on it. If he / she picks up the mail and report any suspicious activity is much better.
  • Remove your spare key from your hiding place, if you need to leave a spare key put it in a secure portable lock-box or give it to the friend / relative watching the house.
  • During the summer months, burglars usually watch and keep track of which houses are vacant. You can always leave a radio on, keep your curtains closed, and place timing devices on your interior or exterior lights.
  • Trim the vegetation around the house so it doesn’t provide hiding spots for burglars.
  • Unplug your automatic garage door opener to reduce the chance of someone breaking into your house through your garage.
